The European Board of Urology (EBU) is a section office of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). EBU’s objectives are to study, promote and harmonise the highest level of urological training in Europe - both on the basic and postgraduate level. We aim to achieve these objectives by the following means: 

1. Setting educational standards for training institutions and the maintenance of such standards. 
2. Identifying minimal requirements for urology training and publish a European Curriculum. 
3. Defining rules for accreditation of educational activities. 
4. Offering a systematic assessment for the recognition of quality, both for the individual and training institutions.

For more than two decades we have been working towards achieving these aims and already today we see the results. All of our activities and programmes are well-established and are recognised internationally as a Mark of Excellence:

• Accreditation of basis Urological Training Programmes (Urological Training Programmes).
• Accreditation of Sub-Specialty Centres (Urological Training Programmes).
• Endorsement of activities related to Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development (CME & CPD). 
• Certification of Fellows of the European Board of Urology (FEBU).

EBU and the EAU

For the advancement of the European Urology, the EBU collaborates with the European Association of Urology (EAU).

The EAU is a scientific, professional and educational organisation which actively promotes the development of urological science and practice and represents the interests of all its members, urologists and related medical professionals. The EBU, on the other hand, is a non-profit organisation that is charged with regulatory matters, it has independent evaluation tools and authority, as well as broad expertise in urology training standards and requirements.

The key to ensuring unbiased and high-quality assessment of all EAU and other European urology-related training activities is the fact that the European Board of Urology works as an entirely independent regulatory organisation.

At the same time, close cooperation and coordination between the EBU and the EAU is necessary in order to achieve universally high urology training and practice standards all throughout Europe.
