FEBU Written Examination

The FEBU Written Examination is a multiple choice question (MCQ) examination covering the whole field of urology, including basic science.

  • The examination consists of 150 MCQs which must be completed within two and a half (2.5) hours.
  • The examination is offered in English. Exceptions are made for residents for whom the exam is mandatory; Austrian and Swiss candidates take the exam in German, Polish candidates in Polish and Hungarian candidates in Hungarian.
  • The passing score is determined by the EBU Examination Committee and depends on the average score of the total group.
  • Announcement of the results may take 4 to 6 weeks. Personal result letters will be forwarded by postal mail.

Dates & Venues 2012

  • FEBU Written Examination Wednesday, 5 September 2012
    • Time: 14.00 – 16.30.
    • In conjunction the Eurep Course; registration is limited to course participants.
    • Venue: Clarion Congress Hotel, Prague.
  • FEBU Written Examination Saturday, 17 November 2012
    • Time: 14.30 – 17.00.
    • Potential venues: Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Budapest, Genoa, Istanbul, Luzern, Lisbon, Linz, Madrid, Paris, Warsaw. Per venue a minimum number of 10 candidates is required; applicants may be requested to sit the examination elsewhere.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants meeting the following criteria can register:

  • Final year resident being trained in an UEMS/EBU member country; or   
  • Board certified urologists.

Furthermore the following matters are of importance for the application procedure:

  • Urologists certified in a non UEMS/EBU member country can apply for the Written Examination only.
  • Urologists certified in a non UEMS/EBU member country who have passed the Written Examinations in 2008 can apply for the Oral Examinations 2013 (time frame of maximum five years between the Written and Oral Examination).     
  • Residents from the United Kingdom and Ireland need to be on an official training programme (official training number required). Residents who are not on an official training programme in these countries can apply for the Written Examination.

Fees

  • FEBU Written Examination Wednesday, 5 September 2012
    • Applicants from UEMS/EBU member countries: EUR 400.
    • Applicants from non UEMS/EBU member countries: EUR 600.
  • FEBU Written Examination Saturday, 17 November 2012
    • Applicants from UEMS/EBU member countries: EUR 400.
    • Applicants (residents) currently in training at an EBU Certified Centre: EUR 300.
    • Applicants from non UEMS/EBU member countries: EUR 600.

Registration period

The online registration periods for both examinations differ and are listed below:

  • FEBU Written Examination Wednesday, 5 September 2012
    • Online registration available  from 1 June until 5 August 2012.
  • FEBU Written Examination Saturday, 17 November 2012
    • Online registration available from 15 July until 1 October 2012.

UEMS/EBU applicants

  • Urologists certified in an UEMS/EBU member country and final year residents in an UEMS/EBU member country, who
  • Work and live in an UEMS/EBU member country.

Required documents
Registration is only considered complete when the required documents are delivered at the EBU office before the indicated deadline.

  • Final-year residents submit a statement according to the EBU template. The statement confirms that the applicant is in the final year of a urological training programme in a UEMS/EBU member country. In compliance with UEMS/EBU requirements, urological training lasts for at least a minimum of five years.
    Once the online registration starts, the EBU will provide a template statement. This statement is to be printed on institutes letterhead paper, and signed by PD. Other documents cannot be accepted as valid proof.
  • Board-certified urologists submit a copy of the national board certificate. They may additionally be requested to provide proof of having completed a urological training programme that lasted for a minimum of five years.
  • A photocopy of the valid national passport or identity card.
