FEBU (International) revalidation
General
A Fellow of the EBU, FEBU (International), is an individual who has met the educational, clinical, and peer-reviewed standards as defined by the EBU Examination Committee.
The FEBU (International) title is recognized as a mark of quality, an added qualification and a valuable asset to one’s curriculum vitae and professional portfolio. It does not confer any legal rights or serve as a license to practice urology.
Revalidation Process
To maintain the quality standards associated with this title, we introduce a revalidation process. Starting 2025, the FEBU (International) title will be valid for a period of five years and subject to revalidation. Candidates who pass the FEBU Part 2 Oral Exam 2025 and onwards will be issued a diploma with a validity term of five years.
The revalidation process is based on Lifelong Learning and active participation in Continuing Medical Education. Most countries require ongoing education, Continuing Medical Education (CME) to uphold licensure and certification.
Where CME is often associated with Quantity we expect that Lifelong Learning (LLL) brings Quality into the equation.
Lifelong Learning
“Lifelong learning is essential for health professionals to keep pace with the evolving scientific and technological landscape and to maintain professional competence throughout their careers.” (Source: WHO, Transforming and scaling up health professionals’ education and training, 2013.)
Lifelong learning is essential due to the following factors:
- Rapid advancements in medicine
- Patient safety and quality of care
- Professional standards and regulatory requirements
- Ethical responsibility
- Adaptation to new roles and healthcare systems
EU-ACME
In 2004, the European Board of Urology (EBU) and the European Association of Urology (EAU) joined forces to promote Continuing Medical Education (CME) among urologists across Europe by establishing the EU-ACME (European Urology – Accredited Continuing Medical Education) Committee.
Within the EU-ACME Committee, the EBU and the EAU share equal representation with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
- EBU (European Board of Urology): Through its Accreditation Committee, the EBU is responsible for evaluating and accrediting educational events in urology, adhering to the UEMS/EACCME guidelines. Additionally, it offers an online LLL self-assessment/learning tool and participation requires completion rather than achievement of specific scores, allowing for individualized learning.
- EAU (European Association of Urology): The EAU represents urology professionals in Europe and beyond, with a mission to elevate the standard of urological care by:
- Organizing scientific and educational activities
- Distributing (semi-)scientific literature and clinical practice guidelines
The partnership between the EAU and the EBU within the EU-ACME programme provides effective tools to ensure a professional framework with extensive administrative advantages and opportunities.

Implementation
Holders of the FEBU (International) title are expected to be enrolled in the EU-ACME Programme https://eu-acme.org/.
Members of the European Association of Urology (EAU) are automatically part of the EU-ACME Programme and can use its system to manage their CME portfolio.
To maintain the FEBU (International) title, a minimum of 200 CME credits must be recorded in the EU-ACME database over five years. This includes completion of EBU’s online LLL tool at least once.
Active participation is the personal responsibility of the title holder. Before the end of the five-year term, title holders will be notified of their current credit status and provided with guidance if needed.
Procedure
Title holders who completed the revalidation process successfully within assigned timeframe will have their FEBU (International) title extended for another period of 5 years. They receive a new diploma. A one-time administrative fee will apply for this service.
