FEBU (International) revalidation

General
A Fellow of the EBU, FEBU (International), is an individual who has met the educational, clinical, and peer-reviewed standards as defined by the EBU Examination Committee. The FEBU (International) title is recognised as a mark of quality, an added qualification and a valuable asset to one’s curriculum vitae and professional portfolio. It does not confer any legal rights or serve as a license to practice urology. To maintain the quality standards associated with this title, we introduce a revalidation process. The revalidation process will be based on the principles of Continuing Medical Education (CME) and active engagement in Lifelong Learning. Starting 2025, the FEBU (International) title will be valid for a period of five years and subject to revalidation. Candidates who pass the FEBU (International) Part 2 Oral Exam 2025 and onwards will be issued a diploma with a validity term of five years.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) & Lifelong Learning
“Lifelong learning is essential for health professionals to keep pace with the evolving scientific and technological landscape and to maintain professional competence throughout their careers.” (Source: WHO, Transforming and scaling up health professionals’ education and training, 2013.)

Continuing Medical Education (CME) encompasses educational activities designed to maintain, develop, and enhance the knowledge, skills, and professional performance that physicians rely on to provide high-quality care to patients and to fulfil their responsibilities to the public and the medical profession. In many countries, ongoing participation in CME is required to maintain medical licensure and certification as it is considered essential for several reasons:

  • Rapid advancements in medical science and technology
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality of care
  • Adherence to professional standards and regulatory requirements
  • Fulfilment of ethical responsibilities
  • Adaptation to evolving roles and healthcare systems

EU-ACME
The FEBU revalidation programme is jointly operated with the EU-ACME office. In 2004, the European Board of Urology (EBU) and the European Association of Urology (EAU) collaborated to promote Continuing Medical Education (CME) for urologists across Europe by establishing the EU-ACME (European Urology-Accredited Continuing Medical Education) Committee.

Step 1: Join EU-ACME

Holders of the FEBU (International) title are expected to be enrolled in the EU-ACME Programme. Members (Junior, Active and Honorary) of the European Association of Urology (EAU) are automatically part of the EU-ACME Programme and can use its system to manage their CME portfolio. Non-EAU members sign up for individual EU-ACME membership via this link.

Step 2: Active Participation
Engagement in lifelong learning activities is the responsibility of the titleholder.

Step 3: Record Credits
Titleholders are expected to maintain their EU-ACME portfolio and record a minimum of 200 credits in the field of Urology over a five-year period. For those awarded the FEBU (International) title in 2025, this timeframe runs from January 2026 to December 2030. Those starting in 2026 must collect their credits between January 2027 and December 2031, and so on.
The 30 credits awarded for the FEBU (International) title will automatically be added to the titleholders account.
